I have hmail v5.1 with Horde and the passwd addon and everything works great for me. I have mine setup the same way that you do (by changing the password encryption and changing the password directly in the database). I have cache disabled in Hmailserver by the way.

the attachments and data folders are ok... those would throw an error before you even reached the login screen. Something is happening between squirrelmail and hmailserver. Be sure that IIS isn't running an SMTP or other mail services. That's all I can think of.

it looks like you are doing things correctly. SSL works, I've been using it for months in the alphas. Try restarting your server by stopping and starting the service.

Then try telnetting the ports and seeing if you get responses.
