I just installed hMailServer and I am preliminarily please, my only question is whether or not there is a proper procedure for shutting down just the hMailServer software. That is, do I just stop the hmailserver service or is there another service (database, SMTP, IMAP, POP, etc) that needs to be shutdown as well?

Background; I have a specific application for this server and I would like to shut it down when it is not needed. In fact, the partition which houses the binaries and data may not always be available to the computer so I need to make sure that there is not a tentacle from Windows trying to access it.

Thanks in advance for any information you can offer, I looked at the documentation and service shutdown is not really covered.

Aaron.

Hey Aaron,
You shouldn't HAVE to do any special shutdown procedure other than making sure hmailserver service shuts down after your SQL server to avoid loss of data/messages. During install hmail offers to make your sql a dependent for hmail which helps solve that issue but either way that's your biggest concern.

For me I prefer to wait until all connections are gone & 0 for smtp/imap/pop before pressing the 'pause' button in the admin (it was previously 'Stop' on older builds) then shutdown or stop the service but that is likely overkill. I'd still suggest you try to avoid shutting down if there are active connection as hmail will appear to hang while it waits for them to finish.
