Re: Block incomming connections across all protocols using R

Yes, I'm with you in many of those scripts, the SMTP auth on 25 and the GeoIP I will have to investigate. I will also be interested in the OnLoginFail script (and possibly OnLoginSucceeded too????). hMailServer is already great for what it is - and its getting better all the time thanks to you and M...

Re: Block incomming connections across all protocols using R

Hi Bill, Thank for your suggestions and thoughts here. I've been running my study for nearly a day now and I'm rapidly coming over to your conclusion that blocking via RBL at connection is not going to help me. For starters, although every hack has been on a RBL list, so have over 50% of genuine use...

Re: Block incomming connections across all protocols using R

Thanks for that AUTH blocker script on port 25 - it makes sense and once I have got everyone using SSL on 465 or whatever that may be very useful :) I didnt see OnSMTPData in the docs? - but I have only just upgraded to the latest 5.4 (release not experimentaL) from the 5.3 that was running pretty w...

Re: Block incomming connections across all protocols using R

As I said, I've already got tons of scripts that have been a blacklist saver in the past, including checking the FROM against the account domain, maximum recipients count and the out-limit here http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=13824 , but I'm not happy that so many brute-force s...

Re: Block incomming connections across all protocols using R

The problem with implementing it on the firewall and/or using the IP ranges is that these are coming in from all over the place - seemingly random, probably a botnet of some sort. Maybe Im over paranoid after having several accounts hacked and used to send spam (I have all sorts of scripts now to de...

Block incomming connections across all protocols using RBL

I have been seeing a lot of brute-force attacks recently - >80 today for usernames that dont exist. I have auto-ban setup up for 24 hours and it works, but my worry s, with the amount of IPs in the attach, its only a matter of time before one gets lucky. So it would be really good if I could block t...

Thanks Matt,

Yes, you are right.... I figured it out looking at the COM interface with OLEView.
I got it working nicely :)

Did you ever figure out if you can set the expiry through the COM API/Scripting?
I'm looking at adding something similar to one of my scripts.

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Thought so.

A simple guide might be good - but I understand that these things take time, and most of us just want to get our individual scripts/servers working! I guess all the information is in the forums (and quite a lot in this thread now) for anyone that knows how to use search :)

Thanks

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Well... if logging to a DB fits your bill, fine with me No I didn't say logging to the database (I know AndyP said he is doing that)! In my opinion that is not necessary for the reasons I gave previously. I mean saving the data in the database instead of text files. Anyway we seem to all be saying ...

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Personally, in this case, I would rather use the custom log and I don't care (for this script) if an occasional log entry gets lost, so long, as ObiWan said, the log funciton does not lock up the server! For the purpose of this script, the most important thing is to ensure the integrity of the data ...

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Hi Andy, Yes I agree that the database sounds like the best solution (and far quicker too). And if you could post the updates to your original scripts, or just a whole new set of scripts and database structure, I'm sure everyone would find it useful :) And ObiWan, That's another approach but it's ri...

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Yes I agree, but while it may be better to use the hMs Log method as described, that means all the log will go to the main hMs log file, which I guess would make debugging the script more difficult hence why the author created his own logs. Also, these scripts write their own (text) data files so th...

Re: Limit outbound mails by user, domain or server average

Hi Masp, One thing I have learnt about hMailServer scripting in VB, is that its all too easy to get these sorts of problems. I modified the logging functions to retry and to use a lock file to try and avoid clashes like this. I'm guessing that the server itself is calling multiple scripts in differe...

Re: Automatic whitelisting

Hi Matt,

Thats from my modified script - I think its because the AWL is locked (more than one email at the same time) - which perhaps would have caused problems if it were not for my changes - cant be 100% sure its been several weeks since I last looked - I will try and check later.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: Automatic whitelisting

Urm, I don't see a problem with that in theory but really only in practise will you know if it works. However, the locking in my version is more against multiple updates of hMailserver and the log files (which you can keep separate anyway) rather than the white list text file(s) - you might need fil...

Re: Automatic whitelisting

I was explicitly asking for you to use SHORT paths not FULL paths because of this. If you had tried the short version as I suggested, I bet it will work. Its almost the same as the double quotes... basically it cant cope with the space in the file/folder name (thus my shorternd version would be OK)....

Re: Automatic whitelisting

OK, my final suggestion is to change the path for the VBS script (as I tried to suggest in an earlier post). In Eventhandler.vbs, near the top, change Public Const vbs_update_wl = "C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Events\EventHandlers_awl_update.vbs" to Public Const vbs_update_wl = "C:\Progra~1\hMailSer...

Re: Automatic whitelisting

Just to check, you do have the correct path and name set in vbs_update_wl at the top of the main script don't you? For me its "D:\Progra~1\hMailServer\Events\EventHandlers_awl_update.vbs" I just noticed that I've used short paths (progra~1) - maybe there is a long file name issue. You could check th...

Re: Automatic whitelisting

I guess that's something to do with the original error.... Were there any errors logged? Where you have WshShell.run vbs_update_wl, 1, false in the main eventhandler vbs, you could try adding (on the line before or thereabouts): write_log (" spawning new awl update process ("& vbs_update_wl &")") be...

OK, thought that might be the case. Open up the eventhandlers_awl_update.vbs and see if at the top it says "Option Explicit" (mine does but I cant remember if that's a change I added myself). I think I had a simular problem. Try replacing the line WshShell.run(vbs_update_wl) with: WshShell.run vbs_update_wl, 1, false EDIT: Actually thinking about it, that probably wont make any difference. If that does not work, then I suggest something inside the script "EventHandlers_awl_update.vbs" ma...

True (thanks :)), but it would be nice not to have to rely on 3rd party log analysers....
