Tool to migrate from Imail 8.15 to latest version of hmail
Tool to migrate from Imail 8.15 to latest version of hmail
Is there a tool to migrate from Imail 8.15, I need to move all mail, email addresses, aliases, and all the users passwords. Imail has some domains using pop and some using imap. My issue with using the imap transfer method is that I don't know the passwords for all the users. I'd like to do it so my customers see no change at all. Thanks for your help. I have searched but everything I seem to find is very old and only works with hmailserver 4.x
Re: Tool to migrate from Imail 8.15 to latest version of hmail
I don't know of any recent work on this
IMAP transfer is still the best method

Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

I can't use that method for 2 reasons. I have a lot of users on several domains and I don't have their passwords. Also, the server name is the same but it is on different machines with different IP addresses. I am being forced to get a new server because IBM is phasing out the data center my old server is located at. Hoping someone can help me because I can't do VB code myself.

I would read this thread ...
https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewt ... ilit=imail
and install a hmailserver v.4
migrate like discussed in thread ( from imail 8.x.x to hmailserver 4 )
then upgrade hmailserver
i cant see anyone doing the vb work you ask for since 2009 ( which Mattg indicates ) so i would not bet on anyone to jump on your request ( but hey if im wrong it is your win )

Thanks for the replies guys. Since the website where the download was is no longer running, I can't even find the software anywhere. Thanks for giving me the coder's linked-in profile. I have messaged him from linked-in and maybe he still has the software available. I'll keep you guys posted so anyone finding this thread can learn from it. Thank you all. If anyone does have a copy of it please let me know.

I migrated from IMail server 8.15 two weeks ago.
I'm still making some adaptations to hMailServer
https://github.com/mikegeeklabs/imailregistryeater
Then, you can import all users with some scripting.
Then, I used the wonderful imapsync to copy the IMAP folders.

First of all, the passwords of IMail Server can be decrypted (from Registry)

Re: Tool to migrate from Imail 8.15 to latest version of hmail
Hey guys,
I finally bit the bullet and did it all manually. I had all my customers (only about 10) set their mail programs to check for mail every minute and leave them on overnight while the dns settings took effect. One customer who is a pita to work with can't figure out how to change her password but she also won't respond to my repeated attempts to contact her, so that's on her. Everyone else is up and running after alot of experimenting, looking up stuff, etc. My last issue is getting a web interface but I'm working on that. Thanks for all your help.
