Failed to parse line in SpamAssassin configuration, skipping

Post by thomas10 » 2023-11-29 11:57

Hi All,

I am using Windows version SA 3.4.4.42. Recently found something weird in SA log.

Code: Select all

Wed Nov 29 17:47:05 2023 [6296] info: config: failed to parse line, skipping, in
 "C:\Program Files\jam software\spamassassin for
windows\etc\spamassassin/whitelist.cf": whitelist from *@abc.com
Wed Nov 29 17:47:05 2023 [6296] info: config: failed to parse line, skipping, in
 "C:\Program Files\jam software\spamassassin for
windows\etc\spamassassin/whitelist.cf": whitelist from *@cde.com
Wed Nov 29 17:47:05 2023 [6296] info: config: failed to parse line, skipping, in
 "C:\Program Files\jam software\spamassassin for
windows\etc\spamassassin/whitelist.cf": whitelist from *@fgh.ru
Wed Nov 29 17:47:05 2023 [6296] info: config: failed to parse line, skipping, in
These 3 SA whitelist are the current whitelist address being input. When restarting SA service, this error occurs, resulting the whitelisting for these 3 addresses not working, other addresses are fine.
I have tried to add new blacklist address but nothing happens, except whitelist.
Please advise if got any idea on it. Really appreciate it

Regards,
Thomas

Ok guys, I am lost. I manage to find out the problem, but it's very weird.

For example, whitelist from *@abc.com, @ is the issue. I replaced the @ from the whitelist address that got no issue and it worked.

Really curious to know what is going on here whereby I am using the @ with the English typing language, what will be the reason that my @ is not accepted?

it's "whitelist_from" ... You are missing the underscore.

Code: Select all

  whitelist_from joe@example.com fred@example.com
  whitelist_from *@example.com
https://spamassassin.apache.org/full/3. ... ST-OPTIONS

Hi Soren,

OMG, Silly me, why I will ever miss out the underscore since I have done the blacklist and whitelist for quite some time?
Guess I will need to check my eyes.

Will keep this post here as a lesson for people who use SA to blacklist and whitelist email/domain.

Guys, remember the underscore.

Example, blacklist_from, whitelist_from
