Good, Free, Command Line Scanner for HMS

Post by mpfrench » 2017-06-05 20:06

I'm running hMailServer-5.6.7-B2407 on Windows 7 Ultimate.

I've successfully used the various incarnations of AVG Free for several years as an external malware scanner with HMS. However, AVG 2017 (AVG 17) Free removed the command line interface. See https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000Dc30

I've tried Microsoft Security Essentials but found that it gives too many false alarms. It turns out that MSE's the ERRORLEVEL return value of 2 can indicate either a malware detection or a program error. This finding is verified at https://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-cont ... 017_04.pdf

Can anyone suggest something better than ClamWin as a free command line scanner?

Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

But ashcmd.exe is not (anymore?) included in the free version.

To be honest, I do not know any free comand line scanner (except clamav).

many of us here use ClamAV.
together with Sanesecurity and Securitinfo signatures it's not worse than commercial AVs.
ultimate AV is the user him/herself, you know...
