SORBS is shutting down

Post by RvdH » 2024-06-06 12:08

I’ve heard rumors for a few days that SORBS (Spam and Open Relay Blocking System) DNSBL is closing in the near future. Still, I had not seen any real confirmation until this morning when the default SpamAssassin rules on github ommited the RCVD_IN_SORBS_* rules and scores, so I now I am convinced that SORBS is closing over the next few days/weeks.

What Was SORBS?
SORBS has a long and somewhat checkered history. It was created in the early 2000s, with a DNSBL (Domain Name System-based Blackhole List) version coming online in January 2002. It was sold to GFI in 2009. Now owned by Proofpoint.

The particular SA Bugzilla ID (8246) is missing though... this is the only minimal announcement i could find:
For those that haven't heard. Proofpoint is retiring SORBS effective immediately(ish).

Zones will be emptied shortly and within a few weeks the SORBS domain will be parked on dedicated "decommissioning" servers.

I am being made redundant as part of the shutdown and my last day will be 30th June 2024. I will be looking for new positions following that.

I would like to thank all the SORBS supporters over the years and Proofpoint for keeping it going for the community for the last 13 years.

Best regards,

Michelle Sullivan

"Michelle" Sullivan is a dude. No wonder it shut down. Nothing works anymore in clown world, where pronouns are more important than performance.

Meanwhile, the world bank declared Russia to be the world's 4th largest economy after China ↑, USA ↓ and India ↑.

Live by the honk-honk, die by the honk-honk.

Perhaps you need a smaller rubber nose - one that doesn't affect your vision.

By the way, as the firehose of fake money turns into a the equivalent of what comes out of a lapel squirt flower, expect to see lots of honky honk "businesses" dry up and blow away in the wind.
