Hi
Installed eMclient [free] on my laptop as a trial and on running it it pormpted for an email address so I pasted "Mark@Mark-Personal" and it scanned and reported "The domain cannot be resolved. Check the email address and network connection". I can find no option to give it the servers name or IP address so my guess is it's expecting ind a domain name somewhere on our network and can't? Maybe this is T/bird's problem too?

Maybe it's due to the file server running Win 10 Pro not a server version?

If we can get eMclient running I think I'll stick with it as it appears to offer more than T/bird albeit I'd upgrade to the Pro version

If "Mark-Personal" does not resolve you can enter the IP address of the server.

eMclient - Well that resulted in a slitght curious out come with Mark@192..... sever IP address I got a pop up:

Verify certificate

Clicking on show certificate it shows AkrutoCertificate which is softaware running on the server that syncs my Outlook calendar and contacts to my mobile

Maybe for testing purposes I shd close Akruto and MailCopa's services on the server and see what happens. Possible conflict? If that's what it is then it's only a problem in the transition to HmailServer as bewteen it and eMclient they'll replace MailCopa, Outlook and possibly Akruto

Hi
Finally found a bit of time to try and progress this!
Stopped MailCopa and AkrutoSync on the Server
AVG f/wall still off, sing Win 10 Defender
Using eMclient, account setup, Mark@192..... server IP
Searching database
Initialising search
Obtaining server configuration records
Running
Obtaining MX records
Trying common 'IMAP4' Server configurations
Trying common 'POP3' Server configurations

The correct settings could not be determined. Check email address or Setup account manual

Tried a couple variations on manually setting it up and failed so turned AVG f/wall back on and repeated setting up a new account

Using eMclient, account setup, Mark@192..... server IP
Searching database
Initialising search
Obtaining server configuration records
Running
Obtaining MX records - Asked for p/word then credentials
Trying common 'IMAP4' Server configurations
Trying common 'POP3' Server configurations

The correct settings could not be determined. Check email address or password - Slightly different and feels a little closer

Tried Mark@Mark-Personal@ 192......... - Not found

Mark-Personal@ 192......... asked for p/word and credentials

Same error msg: The correct settings could not be determined. Check email address or password

:D Just had another tinker with Thunderbird and hey presto I've an Inbox with emails in it and with AVG F/wall. Now how to replicate that in eMclient

:D eMclient - Opted for manual setup and bingo, emails in my inbox

Restarted MailCopa

Things are looking up, can I send an email?

:( Emails not going out, tried 2 different SMTP addresses, ours and Yahoo's. Error code 10054. A bit more work to do it would seem

Enable logging in hMailServer (SMTP, TCP/IP and Debug) and post log...

Morning, had a further 'play' but still no joy. I've set a route up to provide the SMTP address for the email address @ Yahoo I'm currently using for my testing

For some reason I didn't receive any email advising of your reply, just seen it. Set log and tried to send another email thru HS
Thanks

Run this and post the resulst
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30914

I think that you have SSL selected for your SMTP relayer, and that should be StartTLS (required) for port 587
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Log below. Is there any reason why I'm not receiving an email advising of replies to this thread, I was doing until yesterday? Only saw your msg because I logged in and checked.

This concerns me:
SMTPD" 928 31 "2020-04-26 10:33:26.934" "192.168.1.127" "SENT: 220 Yahoo ESMTP
You have your hms replying as if it is a yahoo server. Therefore have your set ptr records our other dns records also stating you are yahoo? If so it wouldn't surprise me that the genuine Yahoo servers address dropping your connection when you connect to them as they will do a check and see you are masquerading as them.

Regarding the handshake failed: as mattg suggested you have your route set as:

Code: Select all

Con. Sec.: SSL/TLS
change that to "starttls".

Hi
I changed it to StartTls, stopped and restarted the Service. Sent another Email from eMclient and rec'd a 'undeliverable' very quickly rather than hours later after it had gone thru the retries. The change has made a difference but still not sending.

Because you haven't posted the log, you posted the diagnostic. And you have already stated that your change has changed things (but not yet achieved what you wanted). Without logs we cannot help.

Hi
Sorry for the misundersatnding re Diag and the log file. I stopped the HS Service on the Server, renamed today's log at pt I, restarted service and on my laptop sent an email which failed albeit as expected. Stopped Service, renamed log pt II and restarted Service. Below is the log [pt II] showing the attempt to send said email. I hope this helps as I/we seem to be so close to it working and I do appreciate your help. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, a combination of not receiving emails from this thread anymore advising of replies [but just spotted possible cause] and being well stressed assisting clients re Covid 19 support claims and business issues here in the UK.

Drv N - It's a pair of mirrored drives running in the Server where we hold our data, personal and work
Thanks

Just to be sure I've checked both the sender's and receiver's addresses, both correct. I've also just logged into the senders email a/c on Yahoo and it's fine too so p/word is ok too

In our current networked email system, MailCopa [MC], the SMTP for this address is set for SSL connection. I had HS set for SSL/TLS originally but has been for the last 24hrs or so 'STARTTLS required'.

Yes Mark....@Yahoo.co.uk is mine too. I cld also try our business address hosted at 1&1

All the email addresses we have are enabled and picked up using POP3 by MC and some also come to our mobiles.

To be clear......

1, the issue is now ONLY with the address you use to authenticate to yahoo relay with and
2, it is Yahoo that is rejecting it.

It is now nothing to do with your FROM or TO addresses and is nothing to do with Certificates. This is now nothing to do with you Hmailserver configuration beyond using the correct credentials that Yahoo will accept.

As you can see from the log (I previously quoted), HMS AUTHENTICATES, received the 'Authenticated' acknowledgement from Yahoo and then Yahoo issues the 550 rejection. It doesnt even get to the message Data details (is FROM, TO). Change your authentication credentials to use MarkCaPeters (perhaps yahoo simply doesnt like your 'SlapheadDiver' account as allowed for sending emails perhaps). Following on from that you will need to seek help from Yahoo on why they issue "550 Request failed; Mailbox unavailable". This might give you a clue: https://www.google.com/search?q=yahoo+5 ... navailable or https://www.contactyahoohelpdesk.com/ya ... -code-550/ (avoid their rogue support number, though. Ask Yahoo directly is you really need to).

I would still address the issue tat you are calling your server 'Yahoo').

EDIT:

This https://help.yahoo.com/kb/xx-smtp-error ... 26154.html

says:
5xx SMTP error codes

5xx SMTP errors indicate an email could not be delivered due to a permanent problem. You should not retry sending email flagged with a 5xx error. Message delivery can be permanently deferred because:

You're trying to send a message to an invalid email address.
Spamhaus has your IP address listed on a Block List.
Your SMTP connection was rejected.
Your message failed authentication checks against your sending domain's DomainKeys or DKIM policy.
The message contains characteristics that Yahoo Mail won't accept for policy reasons.
You might be rejected due to DKIM or incorrect DNS records (or spoofing as Yahoo server).

A few thinks to look at and try out

Using MailCopa I've sent an email from Slap... address to Mark.... address, exactly same subjust and content and it both sent and rec'd back as it shd be so it would seem to be settings in HS that are not quite right.

I'll report back to advise either it's working or not

Thanks

Again, I repeat, this is nothing to do with Hmailserver or even your email client.

Sending to an account on hmailserver may well work. The issue above is about sending out to an external Yahoo address using the route you have set up.

Im not even sure why you have the route set up. Can you explain why?

Hi
Well I tried changing the reciepient address then changing the SMTP to an alternative address but not a Yahoo one. Still no joy but I'll continue to read and reread what is being suggested, maybe a penny will drop and I sort it.

You say it's not a Hmailserver issue but Yahoo. Ok but to me the logic is I have one or more settings/parameters set incorrectly in Hmailserver. The reason for this logic if for no other reason than or current system that I'm trying to replace is MailCopa, running on the same server and is retrieving and sending our emails to the same addresses which to me means it's not a Yahoo issue but settings in HS but I just can't see what and/or where.

I'll keep hunting for the solution inbetween client work

Thanks

SMTP relayer
Check your account details and the password

SMTP route >> Why do you have that
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Hi Matt
More than likely misunderstanding you but if there is no SMTP set how does HS know where to send it thru i.e. Yahoo smtp, our business email address at 1&1 etc, although at the moment I've only setup one of my Yahoo addresses until I know if HS will work for us
Thanks

HMS is a mail server. Like all mail servers, its job is to deliver emails to the worlds recipients directly using SMTP protocol (it uses public DNS MX records to locate them and goes there directly). Routes are only used (mainly) if your personal circumstances prevent it from using the default method of direct deliveries because, for example, your personal internet setup prevents SMTP services running or maybe you want everything to go through another company mail server; they are effectively telling your mail server to use someone elses mail server. So unless you know WHY you want a route (and care to explain it to us), I suspect you dont need it. Ergo, delete it.

I know this thread is long, so lets regroup and ask: what is the situation and need of this server? Do you have a domain? I ask because trying to send a mail from "Mark@mark-personal" to a yahoo, gmail or any other email recipient address is likely to get rejected as the domain ("mark-personal" does not exist and the worlds email servers will know this; if you want to be sending emails to the outside world then you will need to be using a genuine domain address. If, however, you are needing to send 'internal' emails only (ie, users from and to '@mark-personal') then you will not be talking to external email servers and you will not be needing a route or DNS records anyway.

We await your answers.

(You do know I PM'd you, right?)

Hi
Just replied to you PM

Yes it has turned into a very long thread so maybe a recap of what I have and what I'm trying to achieve would be useful

I'm looking to change our current email system for our small office which is:

File server [FS] running Win 10 Pro 64bit [not Server version]
3 PC's / laptops running Win 10 Pro 32/64bit

Software: MailCopa [MC]
Server copy runs on FS which pull downs [POP3] emails from a number of places including business addresses hosted at 1&1, personal ones including yahoo. We don't have a website. Retrieved emails are filed into the appropriate users inbox. The use of filters [rules] allows users to have multiple 'inboxes' to help manage business from personal etc

Client copy runs on the PC's/Laptops reading the emails retrieved by the Server, sending replies and archiving. Users can move emails into other Folders such as Archiving or to another User as Users can see each others folders subject to access rights.

As we stand today HS [running on th Server] is retrieving emails on the one address currently setup and eMclient on my laptop can read them but any email I'm sending from eMclient is not delivering.

Hooray, I believe I have a working system

Firstly many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread and in particular to jimimaseye who with his assistance via a remote link was able to complete the setup for basically the 2 scenarios I have:

1. Our business email address hosted at 1&1
2. Yahoo email addresses and one other

I will write up a brief outline of the solution just in case it proves useful to another person in the future and post it to this thread

Thanks to all

you ask tons of questions, people here which are mostly users like yourself have no obligation to you whatsoever they just try to answer as good as possible with the limited info you provide

Was the message deleted in hmailserver? Try adjusting the 'Spam delete threshold' withing the Anti-spam settings (set it very high if you want all spam, or even beter disable spam checking all together if is'spam you like)

Thanks
You really are incredible, and not in positive way...
you ask tons of questions, people here which are mostly users like yourself have no obligation to you whatsoever they just try to answer as good as possible with the limited info you provide

Was the message deleted in hmailserver? Try adjusting the 'Spam delete threshold' withing the Anti-spam settings (set it very high if you want all spam, or even beter disable spam checking all together if is'spam you like)
Wooosa Ruud... It was a SPAM post in forum that triggered a notification and Jimmy deleted the post...

Blimey RvdH, all I asked was for the originator to resend his message as I couldn't find it on the forum. Sorry but it hadn't occurred to me that it was Spam as jimimaseye advised. All I wrote was I was surprised that people bothered spamming through a user forum, nothing at all aimed at anyone on this forum. Indeed jimimaseye spent over 2 hours helping me thru an online connection recently.

Sorry but I just don't get what your problem is with me, clearly some misunderstanding. For me it's the 6+ weeks of stressing advising clients on the UK Covid legislation and trying to help them with the survival of their businesses. Many might be furloughed and enjoying the sun but for me others like me it's 7 days a week.

I apologise if you have taken my threads as abusive when they are anything but appreciative

Well, "chuff" has two meanings. One is "anus/butt" - "get off your chuff and go to work" ... The other is... "Chuff me" ~ "F*ck me" (since the 1940's) - I presume the Australian version of the latter would be "Blimey"

The old Norse version would be something close to "fjandinn mér óheiðarlega". The Danish version is "For helvede" involving Loke and Angerboda's daughter Hel... Yeah impressive family, Hel's siblings are Fenrir and Jörmungandr.

'Blimey' is not a word in my vocabulary, unless it was short for 'bloody limey' in which case it is an insult against an individual Englishman.

Chuff means 'impress', Chuff me = I'm impressed

I'm Chuffed = I'm happy with that, that's a super outcome

As in
'My dad gave me a new ute for my birthday, I'm chuffed'

Hi
All I can say it wasn't intended to be rude, just a turn of phrase used at least in some parts of the UK as is blimey.

I could have written "Flipping heck, on a user forum.......... etc etc" or "I'm surprised to see spam being directed through a user forum"

Interesting and pleasing to see from what was a misunderstanding and taken as a complaint has turned into some friendly chatter and delving into phrases and there uses.

Not just a technical site but one of culture too

On another lighter note pleased to report that the refurbishment of the rear brake callipers on our MGB Roadster is now complete and ready for refitting, been a busy afternoon.

Many thanks

Ute = Utility Vehicle

Used by cockies (farmers) and tradies (Tradesmen / Contractors)
Loved by boguns / hoons (young blokes who love burning tyres and money)
Great for dropping burnouts (leaving tyre marks on the road and rubber smoke in the air)

I love the sound of the turbo.

I used to have a friend that did amateur drag racing. He had the fastest car in the amateur class. He won every race. They moved him into the pro class because he was winning too much and then he lost every race. But that car was so badass he could drive down the highway at normal highway speed, stomp the gas and the front wheels would leave the ground. No turbo - he had NOx injection. He went through so much of it he became a nitrous dealer to offset the cost. His idiot junkie wife would fill balloons with it and inhale it.

It was an old camero that looked a lot like this:

For going in straight lines really REALLY fast. Not so much for cornering.

No mate, that seems to be a 'Only in America' thing

We've actually stopped building all cars here a few years back. We import them all now, mostly from Asia (Japan, Korea, Thailand and China) and the emphasis there is certainly electric, or low emissions.

We do have a few RAM trucks here, and some F trucks, but rarely bigger than the F100.
Most 'utes' these days are from the Japanese builders, and in fact the Toyota Hilux dual cab is Australia's biggest selling car the last few years.

We do things like bull bars, driving lights, big aerials.

Funny you mention that. My soccer mom neighbor recently traded her soccer mom SUV in for a dual cab ram pickup. I was talking to the husband about it and he said she took one test drive and loved it. The ride quality is more like a car these days. A truck ain't what it used to be. She doesn't have the bull bars and 30 megawatt LED bars (I despise those things - especially on the beach when I'm trying to fish in the DARK). Of course, it doesn't accelerate like his dual motor Tesla. Then again, his Tesla would probably smoke my friend's 1250 hp nitrous injected dragster. Ha! Maybe not, but he'd come close in 1/8th mile.

I would love to have a pickup about 6 days a year. Beyond that I prefer my gas sipping, wind cutting Ford focus. My wife has the twin turbo soccer mom SUV. That's fun to drive once in a while too. Still prefer my focus. It fits me like a glove and I like being low to the ground, feeling the road.

For most of my life a car is 4 wheels and an engine that gets me from A to B, my wife is of the same mind. Don't get me wrong I've always appreciated nice cars but never spent my money on an expensive one and then watch it depreciate.

Then in 2005 we bought a MGB GT for a bit of fun, kept it 8yrs, it was the only car of 3 that was probably looked after. We then decide to change it for a MGB Roadster and eventually found we liked, just happened to have been rebuilt with Hoyle independant suspension front and rear and few other bits and pieces, oh and the 1800 engine was upgraded to a 3.5 V8, it sounds great. We use it all year round, in 2016 did a 2 week road trip ferry to Holland then thru Germany, Italy and Switzerland doing many of the pass in the Alps with friends in their modern sports cars.

For the last 5 years we started doing some club autotests and MG on Track days, typically 4-5 each year, usually with my son and I. We generally do all the maintenance on it.

We were having some engine issues and following Brands Hatch GP circuit track day last August we took the heads off couldn't see what was really causing the issues and decided to take it to a specialist recommended to me by several members. A full rebuild and more than few pounds later it came back, now a 3.9 V8 and bhp up from 150 to 220!

At Bedford track day in early March you could really see and feel the difference in performance. Of course with Covid 19 track days are currently just a memory and we are refurbing the rear brakes and looking to upgrade the front along with one or two other tasks hoping to be able to get out in it soon.

While I have a Lexus LS 460L, I'm not married to it as there are drawbacks to some of the quality of materials and the Lexus Engineers don't even know how to fix some of the items on the car such as when the clock stopped accepting updates to the time either automatically or manually. The Technical Service Bulletin which described the problem said to replace the clock assembly and that stopped me from insisting on the trying my solution which turned out to be the correct solution (I later found where my correct solution had been done in their Forums too). My correct solution was to reboot the firmware by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting the battery. We eventually did that and my solution fixed the problem. I'm now convinced I should probably reboot everything every year or so.

In any event, my concept of powerful engine for a car is one where you can't hear the engine. I call it quiet power. I've had people standing next to my car idling (it's an 8-cylinder) and they were surprised when I indicated my engine was running. I myself one time forgot for a moment to turn off the engine when I got out of the car because you can't tell the engine was running by the lack of sound. And I do not like Turbo Charged engines. They are noisier no matter how much they tout that it still is very quiet. As I keep saying I want RAW POWER not Turbo Charged Power which means less to go wrong, too. I, also, like a car with some metal in it. I don't like the 'tin cans' most cars are like. One thing I immediately noticed about the LS 460L the moment I took possession of it was that I felt like I had a really solid car with metal around me. Everything about the car felt weighty which is one reason why it had to have the horse power and Torque that it has. You only really hear the engine loudly when you give it a lot of gas.

Of course, the Mercedes and Audi's etc. have greater Horse Power and Torque but I'm kind of spoiled on the Luxury brands. Despite the some of the quality flaws the LS 460L had, I still like the so-called Luxury Brands as I still seem to feel there is greater quality there.

The beauty of the MGB [1975] is it's simple technology, no fancy electronics to go wrong or turbos which means my son & I don't need diagnostic computers and the likes.

I can't say it's as quiet as your Lexus, a change of exhaust would make it so but the V8 burble sounds great and never fails to be noticed by young and old a like.

Interesting how this thread has gravitated to motor vehicles  If I have any further questions on Hmailserver I'll begin another thread, wouldn't want to spoil this one

Can't say for sure but 1975 probably is before the heavy usage of computers to control even carburetor. My LS 460L has 65 computers and takes quite awhile comparatively speaking for all of them to shutdown when the ignition is shut off. One very annoying materials lack of quality is the B-Pillar trim. It is made from a fuzzy material and at least a leather like material both of which fray very easily. I have replaced the leather portion once at Lexus expense and within a year or two the same thing happened again. A vinyl piece like is used in the Lexus ES 350 would have been more durable and looked reasonably well. The fuzzy material is just all pilled up with some small holes in them. The reason for this is the poor entry design for the front seats (4-door sedan). I am 6' 2" and I can't get in the car without having to get in with my body right up next to the B-Pillar and likewise getting out. I have to be that far back to be able to get my head in under the top of the doorway. Also Lexus has a feature built in for ease of exit to put the seat all the way back on the seat track which positions anybody into this position up against the B-Pillar if they have this function turned on. The all the way back on Seat Track puts the back of the seat parallel to or possibly slightly behind the B-Pillar thus causing your hip to rub against the B-Pillar as you get in or out of the car which is guaranteed if you have someone parking parallel to you in a parking spot very close to the side of the car.

There are other areas of design stupidity on the car which makes you wonder about the sense of the Lexus Designers such as giving the US version of the car Automatic Rain Sending Wipers without also turning on the Headlights as required in some States but they do so in the European model. And the cost to add the Headlight feature should be nil as it is only a firmware (software) change and already exists for the European model. So, there should be virtually no cost difference to have this feature in the US Model. Can't tell you how many times I forget to turn the headlights on in the day time when it rains (the headlight law is only a few years old and old habits die hard). Sheer stupidity.

My car has automatic lights (most/all new cars do). You can set it to the usual manual settings or to automatic. Of course, every time I work in the yard my little one jumps in the driver's seat and plays with every knob, button and switch, and I drive around for a week without even noticing the lights are off.
