Re: not able to send mails and recieve mails

I am not real adept at reading the report you supplied but to me it looks like you have errors when you attempt to send/receive emails. You should check your Error Log to see what errors you have. To me it looks like you are using a Relay and the server hostname you are trying to Relay to does not exist or in other words the hostname for it doesn't resolve to an IP Address. This will cause you to definitely not be able to Send emails because the Relay will fail.

Why you aren't receiving emails I am not so certain but it could be any number of things not even related to hMailServer such as your DNS MX Record may not be properly defined. Your Port Forwarding in your Router may not be forwarding emails to your hMailServer. Your PC Firewall may not have Port 25 Open.

Your IP Range Configurations definitely don't look like the default settings for hMailServer. The Default for Internet IP Range is for 'Require Authentication from' should have all check boxes checked except for External To Local which should be unchecked. I don't believe this would prevent you from Receiving Emails though.

But again I would check your Error Logs because I see an indication in the Report you provided that there were Errors Present if I interpreted the Report correctly.

why are you whitelisting?

What is the contents of your error log
C:\Program Files (x86)\hMailServer\Logs\ERROR_hmailserver_2020-07-23.log

Also run the internal diagnostics and post the results
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

outgoing mail to port 25 seems to be blocked ( your isp started blocking, or have always blocked .. )
and kcs-tech.net seems to go to google .. so there will be a problem testing if it works locally
( if you are testing before actually deploying.. set a name to IP in local HOSTS file to test .. remeber to delete when deploying)

Wnen I looked at his diagnotics report, though I'm not adept at interpreting these reports in all cases, it looked to me like he was Relaying to a non-existent hostname for a server. That is his hostname (Target) did not resolve. If I have interpreted that Report correctly wouldn't this also prevent him from being able to send emails.

Mattg does seem to be correct the Bind if any in the settings indicated is not a Bind for the Relay. According to the Help Documentation, Bind is used for hMailServer to specify a Local IP Address that you want your hMailServer to listen on for Deliveries if you have multip Public IP Addresses. As mattg said it should be blank as this works in most cases according to the Help Documentation.

I found this Forum thread which is producing the exact same Error messages being shown here regarding the Bind error:

https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20098

The problem in the above Forum link was the MX records were pointing to the wrong server name. Don't know if that is the situation here.

This is only speculation on my part.

Check why the diagnostics are showing a Local Connect to a Local Domain and doing MX Records Look Up for a Local Domain which are apparently by hostname a Google server. This Local Connect shows unable to connect in the Diagnostics Report. If this is an MX Record problem this would possibly similar to the Forum Thread I found with the exact same error showing in hMailServer Log.

You are correct that a lot of error messages may not have anything to do with what they report but if you look at the Error Message in the Error Log, the condition it is reporting is a failure to connect. It just doesn't state that it failed to connect. What it states is that it failed to Bind to the IP Address and isn't that at least a form of failing to connect. hMailServer was unable to connect to the IP Address it tried to Bind to.

If you look at the Forum link I found which had the exact same Error Messages, the resolution was that the MX Record was pointing to the wrong mail Server which I'm guessing might be that the Mail Server it pointed to was listening on the same Port which is what the Error Message suggested was happening. This is purely speculation on my part. Funny thing was mattg also was involved in that Forum Thread as well and recommended checking the same areas he suggested in this Thread's problem. In the Diagnostics of Report in this Thread, I also noted there was an attempt connect to a Local Domains MX Record Servers which looked like from the Server names to be a Google Server and there was a failure to connect. A statement was made that this meant Port 25 was blocked (presumably by the ISP) but that isn't necessarily the case. His Firewall could have blocked Port 25 (speculation only). But in this Diagnostic Report there was an MX Record lookup which makes me then wonder if the MX Record might somehow be involved especially since it was involved int the Forum Thread I found that was similar with its Error Messages.

It could have helped if we could see his actual setup to see what he had in his settings. Sometimes, too, people misinterpret what is being asked of them for information. Also apparently people were missing the fact on the Sending of emails one contribuing factor could have been the Relay with the Target Server hostname not resolving to anything which apparently did get fixed after pointing this out. One possible way that Target Server hostname might fail to resolve to anything could be because it might have been a DDNS hostname. I've had problems with them (when I was ussing DDNS hostnames) in that periodically the DDNS hostname would fail to resolve to anything. Possibly this might be because the DDNS Server maybe went down (i had multiple hours of outages) or possibly during the update process to a new IP Address assignment to the DDNS hostname there is a minor amount of time to assign the ne IP Address to the DDNS hostname. I read somewhere that it might be maybe 30 seconds or so for this process to normally occur. This also would be an MX Record problem.

I don't know if this the problem but in the Forum Thread I found, it was an MX Record pointing to an incorrect server name. I believe it was pointing to a Server it was redirecting everything to was the information in the thread.

except for 1 thing .. . port 587 which must come out of a setting somewhere,
the places where reference to port 587 exist in provided configuration is not where the poster is asked to change things ..

Code: Select all

Relay: EXTERNAL.TLD !! Target does not resolve !! Port: 587
ADVANCED Bind:

regarding error.log i am now leaning to .. the only problem was the resolving of relay server name to ip address was botched
and in that case the error would do better using word connect rather then bind

if an error of missing or faulty resolving of MX generates "cant bind to ip x.x.x.x port 587" i would seriously question all of the text in error.log

but i have no knowledge of what is included in error.log and why it would not try to show real information i just state my opinion

johang,

Also, the only place where in settings where I could find the term Bind used was in the Settings>Protocols>SMTP>Advanced location. And there it did not appear you would reference any Port just the IP Address. I also found the Help documentation confusing as the documentation seemed to indicate this was for when you had multiple Public IP Addresses but then seemed to imply you would be binding to a Local IP Address. It looked like you might use this function for multiple hMailServers and binding a particular hMailServer to handle Deliveries of email.

I pretty much was keeping my mind open to the possibility or probability that there were two problems. One for sending and one for receiving. The forum Thread I found had the same exact error messages and which could be interpreted to be connection issues too and then the person in that Forum Thread found that his problem was actually a wrong server designation on his MX Record.

!! Target does not resolve !! is only a warning - as it may be critical but may be valid. ie, you will get this error if you enter an IP address (or, I think, maybe a hostname that is saved only in your local HOST file but not resolvable by normal DNS lookup). However:
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 202.53.15.21 on port 587.
Received: 220 202.53.15.21 ESMTP.
The fact that the internal diagnostic shows it is able to connect to the relay specified (on 202.53.15.21) thows that this is not an issue. Therefore all focus on outbound address and port should be forgotten. A question should be made to WHY the OP is saying emails cannot be sent as that test shows different. Advice is to refer to the Relay being used and/or spam folder in the recipients account.

The only issue her is inbound.

Its true the diagnostic says:

That tells me they have DNS (MX) records pointing to Google so unless he was then planning to collect these emails by external download then this is wrong.

It also shows that outbound port 25 is probably blocked. This is not an issue as we know he is already using a relay for outbound mail.

CONCLUSION: his MX records are (probably) wrong and he has not given an rationale as to why he said sending is problematic.
