How to make mails internal->internal available externally too?

Post by Alexander56 » 2020-11-29 04:57

Szenario:
1 Domain "ourdomain.de" with 30 mail users "example@ourdomain.de" hostet at "ourprovider.de"

Requirement: Internal mailserver
- for complete copy of mails over years
- central managed signatures etc.

Problem:
Mails internal->internal not available externally e.g. by mobile phone because they are directly distributed and not via provider

Settings in hMS:
- Domain same name as at provider "ourdomain.de"

Question: How to force hMS to send ALL mails via provider?

I tried with rule for "ourdomain.de" to force route with all combinations of ".. treat sender as" and ".. treat recipient as" without success.

One idea could be to rename internal domain to "ourdomain.intern", but this should be avoided.
Access to internal hMS from outside is no option.

Any ideas? - thank you
Alexander

Have you moved your server from "ourprovider.de" to internal hmailserver? Or you are trying to use BOTH hmailserver and "ourprovider.de"?

At least BOTH.
At external server hostet by "ourprovider.de" everything works as before hMS-times.

Mails incomming:
Internal hMS fetches new mails from provider via POP every 5 minutes without deleting.
Users' Thunderbirds communicate with hMS via IMAP.

Mails outgoing:
Users send Mail via SMTP (without signature) to hMS.
hMS adds signature und routes to server "ourprovider.de"

Everything as expected BUT:
Mails internal->internal keep inside hMS; they are "put from one trouser pocket to the other".
Mobile email users don't see them being connected to "ourprovider".

So it would be neccesary to have such emails sent from hMS to Provider well knowing, they come back via POP.
(or any workaround ...)

If hMailserver sees a local account it will deliver there

Your options include
#1 ALWAYS connect to your hmailserver, no matter where in the world you are. You will need to open ports in your firewall
#2 use your ISP for All SMTP connections directly, then all mail for local users will be POP'd back (and Sent mail should be saved by the imap client on the IMAP server (your hMailserver) - This will mean that your signature won't be added by the server, but you can do that in most mail clients
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.
